Each year, the Gateway Affiliate of Mothers Against Drunk Driving holds a banquet to recognize those courageous men and women of law enforcement who sacrifice their lives daily to make our roadways safe. These officers who are honored go above and beyond the call of duty to stop the crime of drunk driving, and by doing so, they spare many more families the pain of losing someone they love. It is with this sentiment that we at MADD Gateway see these men and women as heroes. Several years ago, the Law Enforcement Recognition Banquet started with five hero sandwiches to five officers, hence the name, "Heroes for Heroes". Since then, it has grown to recognize individual officers, specific traffic enforcement units and even entire departments for their efforts. Last year, MADD Gateway honored 94 officers from 25 local departments for their commitment to saving lives. Other sponsors: |
